Herxheimer reaction

A short-lived worsening of symptoms with fever and chills after starting antimicrobial treatment, classically described in syphilis and other spirochaetal infections and attributed to the release of bacterial components. The term is often borrowed to explain feeling worse after starting an unrelated supplement or peptide, where it has no established basis.
