Section 1 of 6Overview
Overview
VK2735 is an investigational unimolecular GLP-1/GIP dual agonist peptide from Viking Therapeutics. Clinical development includes once-weekly subcutaneous and once-daily oral formulations as separate programmes. No INN, PubChem CID, CAS, or open sequence was identified in the 2026-10-07 dossier search. No FDA/EMA approval exists.
Not the same medicine as tirzepatide
Tirzepatide is an approved dual GLP-1/GIP agonist. VK2735 targets the same receptor axis but is a different molecule and sponsor. There is no published head-to-head trial. Do not treat pipeline press as equivalence to Mounjaro/Zepbound.

Key human results
Subcutaneous phase 2 VENTURE — peer-reviewed (Bays et al., Obesity 2026; PMID 41508550)
Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled dose-ranging trial in adults with obesity or overweight plus at least one weight-related comorbidity; diabetes excluded. Primary endpoint: percent weight change at week 13.
Modified ITT estimates: active arms about −9.1% (2.5 mg) to −14.7% (15 mg) versus −1.7% placebo; 93% (130/140) on active reached ≥5% weight loss versus 12% on placebo. Adverse events were mainly gastrointestinal; frequency was reported to fall after titration to steady state.
Oral phase 2 VENTURE-Oral — company/congress topline
NCT06828055 (QD oral, 13 weeks). Viking communications cited up to about −12.2% from baseline at higher doses, with dose-dependence above 15 mg and high proportions reaching ≥5%/≥10% thresholds versus low placebo rates. No peer-reviewed full paper was identified in the 2026-10-07 PubMed pass — keep as press/congress until journal publication.
Phase 1 and maintenance
Early SC/oral MAD company updates (2023–2024) and a September 2026 maintenance-regimen press note (every-other-week / monthly after SC induction) are sponsor communications, not peer-reviewed efficacy packages. Phase 3 VANQUISH results were not available (primary completion estimates ~2027 on CT.gov).
