Section 1 of 8What is dasiglucagon?

What is dasiglucagon?

Dasiglucagon is a synthetic analogue of glucagon, the pancreatic hormone that raises blood glucose. It has its own INN, its own PubChem record and its own label. Several amino-acid substitutions make it stable in solution, so it can be supplied ready to use.

A separate molecule — not another name for glucagon

Dasiglucagon and glucagon are different molecules with different sequences and separate product information. This page is not a redirect to the glucagon page, and data for one cannot simply be applied to the other.

Section 3 of 8How it works

How it works

Like glucagon, dasiglucagon acts on the glucagon receptor and raises blood glucose by releasing glucose stored in the liver. Its development aimed at a ready-to-use form for rescue treatment of severe hypoglycaemia.

Section 4 of 8Human evidence

Human evidence

  • Type 1 diabetes, insulin-induced hypoglycaemia: in a phase 3 randomised trial in 170 adults, median time to blood-glucose recovery was 10 minutes with dasiglucagon versus 40 minutes with placebo; in the reconstituted-glucagon reference arm it was 12 minutes (Pieber 2021).
  • Autoinjector: a further phase 3 trial studied dasiglucagon given by autoinjector (Bailey 2021).
  • Congenital hyperinsulinism: a phase 3 trial studied dasiglucagon in congenital hyperinsulinism (Thornton 2024). Whether it is approved for this use anywhere has not been verified.
Section 5 of 8Regulatory status

Regulatory status

  • EU: Zegalogue was centrally authorised on 24 July 2024 (EU/1/24/1829). On 19 January 2026 the marketing authorisation was transferred from Novo Nordisk to Zealand Pharma. It remains authorised in the EU.
  • US: Zegalogue was approved on 22 March 2021 (NDA 214231). The Orange Book lists all presentations as discontinued (application holder: Zealand Pharma US). The date and reason of the US discontinuation have not been verified in a primary source.

The authorised indication and the warnings are defined by the EPAR; see the references.

Dosing

No dose is given here. Dosing is defined only by the official product information — see the Zegalogue EPAR (opens in a new tab).
