Section 1 of 3What is it?

What is it?

HGF, hepatocyte growth factor, is also known as scatter factor. The active protein contains disulfide-linked alpha and beta chains and activates the receptor tyrosine kinase MET. Despite its liver-related name, its biology extends to multiple tissues. C01 (opens in a new tab)

Section 2 of 3What was studied?

What was studied?

The original receptor work compared purified scatter factor and HGF in cell assays. Both promoted growth, motility and invasion, bound the same sites, and induced MET phosphorylation. These experiments established a ligand–receptor relationship; they did not test memory improvement in people. C02 (opens in a new tab)

Section 3 of 3What does the result mean?

What does the result mean?

Growth, survival and migration are different cellular outcomes. Their value depends on the tissue and disease context; more signaling is not automatically better. Follow the HGF–MET guide before interpreting claims about Dihexa. Evidence for HGF itself cannot substitute for experiments on that compound. C03 (opens in a new tab)
