Section 1 of 3What is it?
What is it?
Orexin-B, also called hypocretin-2, is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide produced from the HCRT precursor. It has an amidated terminus. Orexin-A comes from the same precursor but is a different processed peptide, not another name for orexin-B. C01 (opens in a new tab)
Section 2 of 3What was studied?
What was studied?
The discovery study identified two peptides that activated related G protein-coupled receptors. Central administration increased food intake in rats. That animal experiment establishes neither a human appetite treatment nor a cognitive benefit from an intranasal product. C02 (opens in a new tab)
Section 3 of 3What does the result mean?
What does the result mean?
The OX2 receptor, encoded by HCRTR2, responds to both orexin peptides and participates in sleep–wake regulation. Activating this system and blocking it are opposite interventions. The orexin guide separates the endogenous signals from claims about treatments. C03 (opens in a new tab)
