A popular term for increased intestinal permeability. Increased permeability is a real, measurable phenomenon observed in conditions such as coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel disease. What remains unsettled is the wider claim that it independently causes a broad range of unrelated systemic symptoms — that is a hypothesis, not established clinical fact.
